Afternoon: the train north to Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk (40 min) — a modernist building on a clifftop with a sculpture garden facing Sweden. Worth the detour.

Day 4 · Tue Aug 25 · Stockholm — Museums + Djurgården

Ferry to Djurgården island from the old town. The Vasa Museum has the only preserved 17th-century warship in the world — pulled out of Stockholm harbour after 333 years underwater. Follow with Fotografiska (contemporary photography, three floors, rooftop restaurant).

Östermalms Saluhall food hall for an afternoon wander, then dinner in Södermalm.

Day 5 · Wed Aug 26 · Stockholm — Archipelago

Half or full day on the Stockholm archipelago — 30,000 islands accessible from the city by boat. Most operators offer day excursions. Swimming, walking, quiet.

Back by evening.

Day 6 · Thu Aug 27 · Stockholm → Oslo

Getting There

From Austin (AUS): Fly into Copenhagen (CPH) via Frankfurt, Amsterdam, or Munich. One stop, about 12–13 hours total. Book well in advance for August.

From London (LHR): Direct to Copenhagen, under 2 hours. Multiple daily departures on British Airways and SAS.

Between cities: Train for both legs. Copenhagen → Stockholm is 5.5 hours and crosses the Øresund Bridge. Stockholm → Oslo is 5.5 hours through forest. Both are city-centre to city-centre and easier than flying. Book via vy.no or sj.se, 60–90 days out.

Pick this if

You want the most straightforward trip with the least logistics. No driving, no domestic flights — just trains between cities and a lot of time to explore on foot. Good food and decent nightlife in all three cities.

Skip this if

You want nature. This is an urban trip. Parks and water exist but fjords, glaciers, and actual wilderness don’t.
